With this series, I would like to draw attention  Indian  Handicrafts   that have survived for centuries in India. Up till the industrial age, Indian Handicrafts dominated the market for fine luxury goods such as muslin, embroidery and fine jewelery.  Unlike contemporary artists, Indian art is a creation of a team of artists lead my a master craftsmen.  Since most of Indian handicrafts require many stages, the junior craftsmen do most of the grunt work while the master craftsman puts in the finishing touches.

One such art form is Tanjore Paintings .  It originated during medival India under the patronage of the Chola kings of Tanjavur in current day southern India. At   Tarang  , A group of artists have recreated the masterpieces found in the temples and palaces of the erstwhile chola empire.

Using 24 carat gold foil, vivid vegetable colors and semi precious stones,  They create  tanjore paintings that depict the gods of the hindu pantheon. Drawing from the vedas, they bring to life the exploits and parables of the gods. Meant to remind humans of the devine lessons and existance, these   tanjore painting has a place in every devote hindu.
